The mystery of the room behind Mount Rushmore’s Lincoln stone statue

The stone sculpture depicting the faces of four US presidents on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota is a well-known work that has appeared in many cult films such as American Rangers, National Treasures, and so on. Mount Rushmore’s 18-meter-tall structure depicts the faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

Gutzon Borglum, a sculptor, initiated this project with the intention of attracting tourists. Construction of the memorial began in 1927 after federal funds were secured, and the portraits of the four presidents were completed between 1934 and 1939. When Gutzon Borglum died in March 1941, his son Lincoln Borglum took over the family business.
Gutzon Borglum designed the secret room, but he died before it was finished.

The room was built with the intention of preserving and passing down information and documents about the history of the United States to future generations. Unfortunately, visitors are not permitted to enter this room because it is too dangerous.

The original plan was to sculpt busts of four famous presidents, but due to a lack of funds, the project was unable to proceed.

After the sculptor Borglum died, construction of this room was halted for decades.

Therefore, although construction began in 1920, it was not until 1990 that this room was completed.

Ceramic reliefs documenting moments in American history such as the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Declaration of Human Rights, and even a biography of Gutzon Borglum, all housed in a wooden box, protected by a locked titanium box, on the assumption that thousands of years later, people from another civilization will discover and comprehend our time.

These documents are now carefully preserved and are difficult to access.
