The world’s most famous crocodile, Buka, has passed away at the age of 100

Buka, a giant reptile weighing over a ton, had captured the attention of people worldwide and was a beloved resident of the Koorana Crocodile Farm in Queensland, Australia.

According to the Daily Star, Buka had been enjoying a peaceful life at the crocodile farm before passing away due to old age. The giant crocodile was initially captured from a nearby canal near a sugar cane farm in Queensland.

The farm recently announced on their Facebook page, “This is truly a significant loss. Buka passed away last night.”

Described as a “great member of the crocodile family” by the farm, Buka was known for his gentle temperament.

Buka had been living in captivity at the Koorana Crocodile Farm since 1984, which is a popular tourist attraction in the area. According to the farm, Buka was the second-largest crocodile in Australia and had been living in captivity his entire life.

At the time of his passing, Buka was estimated to be around 100 years old. Despite spending most of his life in captivity, Buka never harmed anyone, according to John Lever, an employee of the farm.

At Koorana, Buka remained active and was the father of numerous offspring. “Last year, his offspring laid 56 eggs, all of which were fertilized by Buka, proving that even at his advanced age, he was still very much capable,” Lever said.

Lever also noted that Buka never saw humans as food and was accustomed to people bringing him food. Thus, farm employees could enter his enclosure without fear of any incidents.

Finally, the Koorana Crocodile Farm announced that they would preserve Buka’s head and skin, which would be hung in the restaurant at the farm as a tribute to the beloved crocodile.
