Photographer Mikhail Mishainik, 29, undertook the remarkable feat of documenting this underground wonder. Spending over 20 hours within the dimly lit depths, he even ventured to spend multiple nights there.
“The mines are vast, stretching for kilometers in both width and length, with some tunnels extending over four miles,” shared Mikhail Mishainik in an interview with The Daily Mail. “It’s difficult to convey the sensation of being so deep underground; you lose all sense of time, and the air is remarkably dry, always leaving you feeling thirsty.”
Mikhail added, “There’s always the risk of gas leaks, including methane, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide, as well as the danger of a potential landslide. However, the element of danger is part of the allure, and it evokes a unique sense of being in a place that few have ever witnessed.”
