Fascinating Illustrations Depict the Transformative Journey of Marriage After the Arrival of a Baby
Discover what marriage truly looks like after the baby arrives through the captivating illustrations created by artists Yehuda and Maya Devir. With their unique sense of humor, they aim to portray the reality of life as new parents.
Yehuda and Maya Devir, renowned for their popular drawing series “One of Those Days,” recently became parents to their precious daughter, Ariel, in April. Yehuda affectionately refers to her as the funniest and most precious creature he has ever encountered.
While the couple is undeniably head over heels in love with their daughter, they openly acknowledge that the birth of a child alters the dynamics of their relationship.
Yehuda started sharing his experiences and emotions as a new father through his Instagram illustrations titled “It’s OK.” These drawings touch upon the challenges faced during this phase of life.
“It’s okay when she cries in your arms. It’s okay if he only wants his mom. It’s fine if you can’t sleep together. It’s okay if you don’t have that picture-perfect relationship everyone talks about. It’s okay if you still struggle to grasp the meaning of your role. It’s okay to feel tired. It’s okay to feel angry. It’s okay if things don’t go as planned. It’s okay to seek comfort in a hug. It’s okay to share everything you’re going through with your partner, even if it challenges traditional ideas of masculinity. It’s okay that your life has changed. It’s okay that some plans had to be canceled. It’s okay if you feel like you don’t have time for anything. It’s okay to feel down. It’s okay to feel frustrated. It’s okay to feel lonely. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s OK.”
Although the initial stages of parenthood posed their fair share of struggles, the couple emphasizes that Ariel has brought an immense amount of joy into their lives and has also become a significant source of inspiration for their artwork.ư
“Our comics are a reflection of our real-life experiences,” shared Yehuda.
These illustrations offer a glimpse into the true essence of love that exists behind closed doors, portraying the authentic and sometimes challenging moments of marriage and parenthood.
