The photographer recently published a series of photos that captured a mother who gave birth in a car. she wrote on Instagram about this particular incident: “I always say that although most first births turn into marathons, you really never know. And then I tell them this story. A mother who was about to give birth to her first child was in labor and called me to tell me that the contractions had already started.
She was planning to give birth in the maternity ward, so she knew everything she needed to do at that moment. Rest, eat something, and drink water. Within an hour, however, her husband called me to tell me that things were moving faster. I heard a contraction over the phone and told her it might be time to go to the maternity ward. Dad called me almost five minutes later to tell me my water had broken. I heard one more information and told them we absolutely had to head to the mediᴄal center.
I grabbed my bags and got into the car. As I was driving on the westbound highway, I saw my dad calling me again. “We see the head!” I told them to pull over, and somehow I happened to be driving right behind them. When I saw their car, I also pulled over and got out of the car. Dad was a nevrosurgeon, so I knew he would be calm under pressure. And it was! An ambulance happened to be passing by, and as soon as they saw what was happening, they came to help. They tried to get her out of the car to lay her on the stretcher, but I said, “No way!”
I kind of blocked the staff so mom and dad could deliᴠer their child with as little fuss as possible. And they succeeded admirably. We were close to the mediᴄal center, so they decided to take mom and the baby there. I also got into the car to offer some security. We made it there, and mom took her baby in her arms. What is the moral of the story?
A birth always surprises you. Not all first births are time-consuming. If the baby is coming quickly, you take heavy breaths, and you do this and you do it well.”
