Six Years of Diminished Majesty: Trapped and Forsaken in Confinement
For six long years, Angelica and Spud lived confined within cramped cages in a household in Virginia, helplessly witnessing their lives slip away before their eyes.
Angelica, a short-haired Saint Bernard, found it a struggle just to stand or turn around within the confines of her tiny prison. Meanwhile, Spud, a smaller terrier mix, would spin around in frantic circles, a heartbreaking display of his distress.
But then came the rescue – courtesy of Rescue & RemEMBER, to be precise. This Virginia-based organization is aptly described as a “bridge for Shelter pets to travel over before ending up in their fur-ever home.”
The initial encounter with the pair, captured in a poignant video, showcased their dire state – disheveled, anxious, and utterly starved. Yet, when their cages were finally opened, a spark of hope ignited as they seized the opportunity to break free into a world of possibilities.
Reunited after years of solitary confinement, they had only each other to rely on throughout their ordeal, their communication limited to the proximity of their separate jails. Even the simplest spaces, like the kitchen of their confining prison, became arenas of joy as they played, ran, and explored this new, expansive universe that was now theirs to discover.
Rescue & RemEMBER, in collaboration with Knine Rescue, Inc., promptly embarked on a mission to secure these deserving pets forever homes.
Spud was the first to find his forever family, who welcomed him with open arms, treating him as their own from the very beginning. Now, Spud revels in the warmth of cuddles and affection, relishing his newfound sense of belonging.
Angelica’s journey to adoption was more intricate due to her health challenges, particularly her underdeveloped rear legs. Nonetheless, she persevered through her treatments, undergoing a transformative process that left her almost unrecognizable.
With a fresh perspective on life’s simplest joys, Angelica stands as a testament to resilience and the power of care.
Despite their early years marred by abuse and neglect, both Spud and Angelica now gaze forward into a future brimming with happiness, love, and companionship.
