On a fateful day in Olímpia, Brazil, the unexpected journey of baby Theo into the world took a unique and memorable turn. His parents, Carolina and Roger Andre Souza Mazer, were on their way to the Hospital da Criança (HCM) in São José do Rio Preto, where Theo’s birth was expected. However, life had a different plan for them.
As the couple passed through Bady Bassitt Avenue, the waters broke, and it became clear that Theo couldn’t wait for a traditional delivery. The HCM medical team was swiftly alerted to the situation.
Baby Theo was determined to make his grand entrance in an unconventional way. He didn’t wait for his mother, Carolina, to reach the delivery room. Instead, he was born right in the hospital parking lot.
Roger Andre Souza Mazer, Theo’s father, described their unique experience, saying, “We have a history of humanized childbirth, and this is our first daughter. So we were calm and sure that it could be born anywhere. Contractions began at 6 a.m., calm and spaced apart. My wife, Carolina Carvalho, 27 years old and composed, who is an expert in the subject, stayed at home with my mother. I went to work, and I let her know that if the contractions started, she would call me, and I would immediately go home to pick her up and come to the hospital.”
He went on to explain, “Around 8:20 am, I picked her up at home, and we headed towards São José do Rio Preto, with more intense contractions. About a kilometer from the hospital, my water broke, and I stopped the car to call the doctor, who immediately went down to the parking lot with the medical team. At the hospital gate, I stopped the car, and the doctor and his team arrived. With all the support and security, the boy was born.”
When asked if they felt fear during this dramatic turn of events, Roger replied, “We feel gratitude. It is a remarkable story in our lives. And at all times, we were safe, without any fear.”
For Roger, who has a passion for cars, the experience of having a child born in a car was an inexplicable one but extremely rewarding.
Theo, the couple’s second child, was born measuring 49 centimeters and weighing 3.2 kilograms. Despite the unconventional birth, both baby Theo and his mother are doing well. This unique and unexpected delivery is a testament to the unpredictable beauty of life and the strength and resilience of new parents.
