A Close-up of a Jaguar’s Stunning Tactic to Subdue a Crocodile
A breathtaking moment was captured on video when a jaguar launched a fierce attack on a large crocodile on the banks of the Cuiaba River in the flooded Pantanal region of western Brazil.
The video footage shows the jaguar stalking and then surprising the crocodile as it lay on a sandy bank. The jaguar initially swam silently across the river to approach the crocodile before pouncing on its prey from behind. What followed was a fierce struggle between the predator and its prey.
The intense battle between the two animals was captured by 39-year-old photographer Justin Black.
Black said, “I was quite amazed to witness the attack. It reminded me of a crocodile attacking a land animal in Africa. The jaguar leaped onto the crocodile’s back to bite and kill its prey, but it was not successful due to the poor angle of attack.”
