In a startling revelation, a mother has come forward with a cautionary tale about how her child’s eyesight was nearly compromised due to seemingly innocent bath toys. Eden, a concerned mother, shared her harrowing experience on Facebook to raise awareness about the hidden dangers lurking in children’s bath playthings.
Eden diligently explained that she would routinely squeeze out any water from her child’s bath toys after each bath. Her awareness stemmed from the well-known fact that these toys can be breeding grounds for mold if left damp. She even cleaned them with a bleach water solution every few weeks and held them up to the light to check for any mold growth.
However, despite her meticulous cleaning routine, Eden was unaware that harmful bacteria could still flourish within the toys since they’re often unable to dry completely. It was a revelation that would soon lead to a terrifying ordeal.
Earlier this year, Eden’s nanny noticed that her toddler, Baylor, had accidentally squirted water from one of these bath toys into his eye. Initially, they dismissed it as a minor irritation, attributing it to the water pressure. However, by the evening, Baylor’s eye had become noticeably redder. Concerned, Eden’s husband rushed him to the hospital, suspecting a case of pink eye.
Eden recounted, “The doctor agreed, and I patted myself on the back a bit for being so attentive.” Baylor received his first dose of eye drops, and Eden, proud of her vigilance, decided to administer a booster dose in the middle of the night to ensure a speedy recovery.
However, the situation took a terrifying turn. “I wasn’t expecting to find him in his crib with an eye twice the size as it was when he went to bed, with redness spreading down his cheek,” Eden recalled. Fearing the worst, they rushed Baylor back to the hospital, where another doctor concurred with their diagnosis, suspecting cellulitis. Baylor was prescribed oral antibiotics, which they administered promptly at 2:30 am.
But by 6 am, Baylor’s eye had swollen to the point where he couldn’t even close it. Panic set in as they rushed him back to the hospital. Eden shared her chilling thoughts, “His eye was so swollen that the white part was bulging out from between his eyelid, and his iris was being obscured. He felt hot to the touch, and a temperature check showed that he had a raging fever.”
Back at the hospital, Baylor received antibiotics immediately and underwent a CT scan to ensure his retina was unharmed. Eden described the following week as “pretty scary,” as Baylor battled severe cellulitis that eventually spread to his face and both eyes. Doctors warned her that her son might lose vision in his worst eye. Fortunately, Baylor’s eyes eventually healed, sparing him from the devastating loss of eyesight.
Eden’s harrowing account serves as a stark reminder that even seemingly harmless toys can harbor hidden dangers. Her story sheds light on the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices with children’s bath toys, underscoring the need for regular cleaning and thorough drying to prevent potentially life-altering incidents like Baylor’s from occurring.
