General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) took the stage at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) 2022 conference to officially introduce its pioneering vision for the next-generation Stryker vehicle. The StrykerX technology demonstrator introduces a host of cutting-edge features to the Stryker family of vehicles, including silent movement, silent watch capabilities, exportable electric power, and reduced fuel consumption through a hybrid diesel-electric power pack. StrykerX boasts a side-by-side crew compartment, offering more space for the infantry squad. Soldiers inside StrykerX benefit from enhanced protection thanks to an integrated Active Protection System and advanced electronic architecture fortified with cyber defense capabilities. Furthermore, StrykerX is equipped with an array of sensors that provide its occupants with 360-degree situational awareness and see-through armor capability.

The Stryker, originally derived from the Canadian LAV III, is a family of eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles. General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-C) manufactures Stryker vehicles for the United States Army at a facility in London, Ontario. These vehicles can operate in a four-wheel drive (8×4) configuration and can be switched to all-wheel drive (8×8) as needed. The Stryker was conceptualized to serve as the foundation for a new medium-weight brigade combat team (BCT) that would strike a balance between heavy armor and infantry capabilities. The service initiated the Interim Armored Vehicle competition, and in 2000, they selected GDLS and General Motors Defense’s proposed LAV III as the winning entry, subsequently naming this vehicle family the “Stryker.”
