Iconic cars from Mad Max: Fury Road up for auction
The Gigahorse: W16 Cadillac pair Thirteen iconic vehicles from the 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road will be auctioned on September 26, offering successful bidders the opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history.
Auction house Lloyds, responsible for the sale, has provided vivid descriptions of its eccentric fleet.
“The Gigahorse consists of a pair of 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Villes intertwined, widened, and mounted on top of each other, with a daring slant provided by massive double rear wheels. It is powered by twin V8 engines connected to a custom-made gearbox capable of harnessing and harmonizing the ultimate power of the supreme leader,” stated Lloyds.
“As the flagship of the Citadel’s Armada, The Gigahorse serves as a testament to past glory and a promise of future triumph.
“Armed with a whaler’s harpoon and a flamethrower of unparalleled ferocity, The Gigahorse is likely the first and last thing you encounter on the Fury Road.”
The Doof Wagon “Every army has its own little drummer boy, who beats the drum and stirs the hearts of the soldiers. The War Boys of the Wasteland are no exception,” expressed Lloyds.
“Mounted drummers pound a taiko beat on enormous resonators made from air conditioning ducts. Meanwhile, Coma The Doof Warrior, blind and disfigured, is suspended in a bungee web, spread-eagled in front of a towering stack of speakers. He hurtles across the desert landscape on a repurposed 8 x 8 M.A.N. missile-carrier.
“The screech of the banshee, the distorted riffs, the relentless bassline, the rallying cry, and the thirst for blood; it’s all music to the ears and fuel for the soul. It’s a symphony, a song, a single scream—a soundtrack to the end of civilization.”
The War Rig: Prime Mover Including Tanker and Ball Pig-Trailer “This monstrous offspring of a semi-trailer and a hot rod, equipped with twin end-to-end V8 engines and six-wheel drive, is an eighteen-wheeled behemoth responsible for transporting precious fluids and firearms, which serve as the fragile bond among the three city-states of the Wasteland,” Lloyds described.
“She (and she most certainly is a she) dominates the Fury Road—a war machine that is equally burdened and fearsome, commanded by Furiosa, the most trusted warrior and renowned driver of the Citadel.
“A dozen elite War Boys take refuge on the truck and trailers of this colossal vehicle, accompanied by a convoy of cars and motorcycles trailing alongside it across the desert—a defiant gesture against the impending apocalypse and the collapse of humanity.”
Razor Cola: 1973 XB Falcon Coupe (The Interceptor Reborn)
“Recently salvaged alongside the legendary Max, the XB Interceptor has been brought back to life within the fiery forge of the Citadel. Raised on off-road rails and equipped with oversized wheels, this double-aspirated V8 blower now bears a skull that draws in air, feeding Scott Hat’s insatiable hunger. With Slit perched atop its gleaming chrome exterior, this assassin on wheels harnesses hundreds of horsepower and a reservoir of rage, hurtling towards mankind’s final stretch with a finish line that looms closer and more definitive than ever before.”
Nux Car: 1932 three-window Chevrolet Coupe, V8
“A turbocharged and nitrous-boosted five-window Deuce Coupe, Nux’s vehicle is the embodiment of every hotrodder’s dream. It serves as the perfect chariot for the young and devout Nux, an ardent follower and skilled driver in the Citadel Armada. Nux revitalizes the fundamental aspects of driving and his deteriorating flesh is enamored with the fury and power of the V8 engine, which he hopes will guide him to Valhalla.
Nux is the harbinger of death, a devoted enthusiast, and a lethal savant, while his car stands as his masterpiece, hope, and heart. Adorned with a totem of skulls and a mask on its crucifix quiver, inclined towards battle, and equipped with a steering wheel fashioned from doll heads and cables, which pays homage to his master, Immortan Joe.
The engine is Nux’s true deity, and the car serves as his place of worship.”
Convoy Car: Elvis
“Two GMC 6 engines, arranged end-to-end on an extended chassis of a three-window Coupe, emit a guttural rumble reminiscent of a V12. Elvis, enhanced with nitrous injection and manned by a solitary gunner, boasts a power-to-weight ratio that ensures its position as the high-speed outrider of the War Rig convoy, the pulsating core of commerce on the Fury Road.”
Convoy Car: Jag Flamer
“The sandblasted and polished frame speaks of its origins in GasTown, but now it has found fame as a member of Furiosa’s convoy, showcasing the ever-changing landscape of recycling in the Wasteland. As a high-speed kamikaze point guard, the Jag Flamer spews caltrops and napalm, a fiery angel of death eager to embrace destruction in the service of Immortan Joe.
Driver, Gunner, Lancer, Boy — the vehicle embodies roles of both passion and joy. Adorned in black pitch on a silver chassis, with flared fenders expelling flames and bullets, it mercilessly confronts any who dare to impede its mission.”
Pole Car: Pontiac Surfari with 20′ pole counterweight
“A 1956 Pontiac Custom Safari two-door wagon, stripped down and modified to accommodate a 20′ pole attached to a V8 engine block, acting as a counterweight for aerial acrobatics. In a Wasteland interpretation of Cirque du Soleil, this steel surfboard-toting monstrosity rains down chaos from above, as Gastown’s elite Warboys unleash boarding parties upon unsuspecting victims, swiftly and mercilessly.”
Sabre Tooth: F250 Claw Car
“Repurposed from an F250 tow truck, the Sabre Tooth boasts a massive harpoon for ensnaring prey and a formidable set of steel ‘teeth’ designed to dig into the earth, slowing down enemy vehicles until the final blow can be dealt by the other members of the Bulletfarm alumni.
Stained a rusted red, bearing the marks of ochres and the blood spilled on the Bullet Farm plains, this vehicle toiled amidst the remnants and armaments of the last great land battles before the Fall, in places like Some and Passiondale.”
Fire Car: Dodge
The Citadel’s premier Fire Car, a Dodge equipped with a flame-throwing attack mechanism, was originally “liberated” from Gastown. Adorned in the Citadel’s black livery, it was enlisted for service in the epic pursuit.
This vintage Hot Rod boasts an aspirated Roots blower positioned low in front of the radiator, inhaling air and dust in almost equal measure. Its unconventional air filtration system features the second-to-last pair of pantyhose in existence.
Driven by a skilled operator and aided by a nitrous boost, the Dodge engages in a spirited competition with Nux’s car, arriving at the quarry with remarkable speed.
Caltrop: El Dorado
This fuel-thirsty American tank provides ample space for a multitude of warriors in battle. It carries caltrops and shotguns at the rear, while a mounted machine gun takes a prominent position up front. The bonnet showcases a medieval bas-relief depicting the dance of Death, and the driver’s door serves as a scorecard documenting partners in that particular dance.
It evokes images of a presidential assassination, forever seeking a grassy knoll.
Buggy: RatRod Chev
Crafted from salvaged car parts, this compact yet potent pirate vehicle is a modified Chevrolet. Its radical chop-top design, combined with various alterations, makes it a solo symphony for a single driver armed with a sub-machine gun.
The rusted patina and high-caliber weaponry bear witness to a rugged existence in the killing fields of Bulletfarm. It scours for discarded cartridges and cannonballs while maintaining order among the hordes manually mining lead and ore in the treacherous Pit.
Buick: Heavy artillery with Hummer weapon mount
With its weathered yet polished appearance, this Buick stands as the epitome of heavy artillery. Its extended rear differential and double rear wheels contribute to its imposing presence, serving as the personal guard and standard-bearer for The Gigahorse and Immortan Joe.
A dedicated crew of trusted War Boys stands at the ready, prepared to provide cover fire from a rotating turret and anti-aircraft gun. They are ever poised to join the fray as reinforcements or to retaliate against any threat that arises.
