According to Alison Towner, a researcher with over a decade of experience studying these creatures, the orca seems to be targeting the liver area of the shark. She further emphasized that while the great white shark is undeniably massive, it appears “tiny” in the presence of these apex predators.
Towner revealed, “We’ve had all the evidence for killer whales being responsible for killing white sharks, but this is the world’s first drone footage of killer whales predating on a white shark. It’s the first time in South Africa it’s ever been documented as direct evidence.”
