I’ve always dreamed of becoming a mother, and my heart was filled with joy when I discovered I was expecting. My husband and I eagerly anticipated the arrival of our little one, wondering whether it would be a boy or a girl and what name we would choose. We attended regular consultations, delighting in watching our child’s growth during the first three months of pregnancy.
However, our world was turned upside down during the fourth month’s appointment when the OB-GYN noticed something unusual. It was later revealed that our daughter, Heliay, had several deformities caused by amniotic bands tangling around her in the womb, a condition known as Amniotic Band Syndrome. Despite the doctor’s suggestion to consider termination, we decided to continue the pregnancy and give Heliay a chance at life.
On August 21, 2015, Heliay was born via C-section, and we faced many challenges during her first days. Her medical condition required close monitoring, and we took turns to care for her. She underwent several surgeries to address her physical challenges, but due to financial limitations, we were unable to provide all the necessary procedures.
Despite the difficulties, Heliay’s fighting spirit and unique personality shone through. She has taught us valuable lessons about the preciousness and transience of life. Heliay’s progress through therapy has been remarkable, and we are committed to supporting her every step of the way.
Though some in society may not understand, we believe Heliay deserves the same opportunities as anyone else. We include her in all our activities and celebrate her milestones with joy. She continues to defy expectations and teaches us the true meaning of resilience.
Our journey with Heliay may be challenging, but it is filled with love and hope. We hope to spread awareness about embracing diversity and the importance of providing equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their differences. Heliay is a beautiful, unique soul, and we are proud to be her parents. We will continue to cherish and support her as she embraces life with unwavering determination.
