A Texas family has experienced a remarkable expansion in their household this summer, as they joyfully welcomed quadruplets into their lives.
Gaby Hagler, aged 39, and Patrick Hagler, aged 50, were in for quite a surprise during their 12-week ultrasound when they discovered that they were expecting not just one, but four babies.
Gaby Hagler, a real estate broker, recounted the moment, saying, “We thought we were looking at two views of the same baby, and then possibly four, but the ultrasound tech was all excited and she’s counting ‘one, two, three, oh wait, no, no, wait, there’s four.'” She continued, “We’re like, ‘Four? Four what? Four limbs? Like what are we counting?’ And she’s like, ‘Well, look, look up there. What do you see?’ And there were four different babies doing completely different things. So, it was very clear at that point that it was not multiple views of the same baby.”
The quadruplets, named Bennett, Coby, Dane, and Adam Hagler, were born on June 22. This news left the couple in complete shock initially, but their past experience with a miscarriage made them even more excited to meet their rainbow babies.
The Hagler quadruplets, born at 34 weeks, are fraternal quadruplets, and their older siblings, stepbrother Paxton, aged 12, stepsister Kalleigh, aged 13, and brother Sammy, aged 2, actively participated in choosing their names.
Fortunately, there were no complications with the babies, and after a brief stay in separate NICUs, they were quickly released to go home.
Despite originally planning to have just one more baby, the Haglers acknowledge that the quadruplets have transformed their lives for the better. Patrick Hagler, a marriage and family therapist, mentioned, “I just turned 50, so turning 50 with four little babies—most people are becoming grandparents at 50—and so I don’t know, I think it’s energized me.”
In addition to the financial adjustments, the Haglers have been adapting to their daily routine with the quadruplets as they continue to grow. Gaby Hagler estimated that they go through an average of 45 diapers, 95 wipes, and anywhere between 12 to 24 bottles per day, with about nine hours dedicated each day to feeding, burping, changing, and tending to the quadruplets’ needs.
Each newborn in the Hagler family has been assigned a unique color and animal theme to make it easier for family members to distinguish them. The babies’ personalities are also starting to emerge, with Adam being “the most mature,” Bennett as “the star of the show,” Coby as “the professional baby” who is always “on schedule,” and Dane having his own distinct traits.
To prevent the babies from getting mixed up, the Haglers have tried various methods, including painting each baby’s toenail a different color.
The Haglers express their gratitude for the love and support they’ve received from family and friends, who have all rallied together to help them. Their older siblings have also stepped up to lend an extra hand as the family settles into their home in Katy, Texas. The Hagler siblings now include Kalleigh, aged 13, Paxton, aged 12, Sammy, aged 2, and the quadruplets Adam, Bennett, Coby, and Dane, who are all approaching 2 months of age.
